Historical Fun Facts: Part I

We came across this recently and no matter how many times I look at it, the sticker price is still a shocker. While our house was not a 'kit' home, the style is very similar and the old ads are pretty entertaining. Both these ads ran from 1908-1914 in the Sears Modern Homes Mail Order Catalog.

  2. I love kit houses! We live across the street from a Sears house. I don't know if you're familiar with George Barber, but he was a kit house architect that lived in Knoxville (our current city) so there are a lot of his houses around here. It's amazing the amount of craftsmanship and detail went into those houses and they are SOLID! And the prices! It's unfortunate that we don't build them like we used to.
